Theme customization can be done in a very easy manner and when it comes to customizing themes in WordPress it becomes easier.
Because WordPress has more than 1,000-2,000 Themes of every category whether its Blog Theme or E-commerce theme it has everything in it.

As you know the first impression is the last impression.

Now coming back to the point how I will customize theme in WordPress?
As you know there are many ways to customize theme in WordPress;
- Using Page builder Plugins like; Elementor, Beaver Builder, etc
- Creating your own theme by using HTML and CSS, and
- Installing a Theme from WordPress
In this Blog Tutorial, I will customize a theme by installing WordPress Themes, which is highly convenient because you get a ready-made theme from WordPress.
And the best lite weight Theme that I use and recommend is GeneratePress.
So let’s start this Tutorial on How to customize Theme in WordPress.
How to Install Theme in WordPress
Here are the steps for doing so;
Step 1 – Go to your WordPress Dashboard -> Drag your pointer towards Appearance and select Themes.
Step 2 – After you select Themes option click on Add New.
Step 3 – After selecting Add New, you would get an option of search Theme type GeneratePress.
Step 4 – After searching GeneratePress, Click on Install and at the same place where you clicked install, you would get the ‘Activate button’ activate it.
Step 5 – After you install and activate your theme, it will send you to customization, customize your website, You can get lots of customization options in the left sidebar.
Now let’s move on How to customize GeneratePress Theme.
How to Customize GeneratePress Theme
So for customizing Simple GeneratePress Theme, Go to your WordPress Dashboard -> Drag the mouse towards Appearance -> Now click on Customization.
Now you would get all the customization Option in the left sidebar.
So let’s start the customization of GeneratePress Theme.
The site identity is a place where you have to fill your site title, Site Logo, Tagline and Site icon that will build an identity to the viewers and Search Engine.
So in the Site Identity;
- Enter your Site Title,
- Enter your Tagline,
- Select a logo for your Site, and
- Select a site Icon
In the Layout, you need to customize how your website interface will looks;
There are six layout areas where you can customize your website appearance;
- Primary Navigation
Do all the customization that has been shown in the above YouTube Video with Explanation.
In the colors, you would get the options to customize colors for your background, headings, sub-headings, hovers, etc.
Here you would get 6 colors customizing options;
- Text Color
- Link Color
- Link Hover Color
- Blog Post Title
- Blog Post Title Hover
You can customizing these as per your choice and preferences.
Typography is generally the type of Fonts you want to use on your website.
You can choose the Fonts for your;
- Body text
- H1 Heading
- H2 Heading
- H3 Heading
Now you can choose any type of Fonts and the Fonts sizes as per your wish.
Skip this part there is no need to do any customization.
Menus is the important part of your blog.
It helps the visitors to jump on to the category that they want to read.
So for creating a Menu you can simply do it in the Customization Page.
But the best place where you can create menu is;
Go to your WordPress Dashboard -> Drag the mouse Towards Appearance -> Click on Menus
Now you would get a dedicated place for creating menu.
Select the required categories, Posts, Custom Links, Pages then click Add to Menu.
Now place it according to your needs in Menu, Sub-menu, and so on. Just like in the image below and click the save menu.
Now your menu will be created.
Widgets is generally a component that enable more function on a website.
So for creating Widgets you can simply do it in the Customization Page.
But the best place where you can create Widgets is;
Go to your WordPress Dashboard -> Drag the mouse Towards Appearance -> Click on Widgets.
Now drag and drop the required widgets on the various position on the left sidebar, footer widget, Right Sidebar, etc as per your wish. As shown in the image below.
Now do all the proper settings of every widget you added.
Now you have created your widgets.
Homepage setting is actually what would you like to have on your homepage either your latest posts or your professional customized page made with page builder plugins.
As I don’t have a dedicated customized static page for website I would select your latest posts option.
Now you Homepage setting has been done.
If you want to add additional CSS on your website you can use this feature.
I don’t want to add so I’ll leave this option as it is.
After doing all the customization click on Publish.
Congratulations your complete customization of your website has been done.
Customize theme in WordPress is actually a very easy task.
Just you need to follow few steps and your whole customization would be done within an hour.
The only thing I would say that if you customize theme in WordPress then use GeneratePress it is a lite weight theme and can help you to maintain your site speed.
